“We will sell no wine before its time,” says Orson Wells in the famous 1970s Paul Masson commercial.
But if that’s the case, and you don’t want to serve wine before its time, where will you store it until the time is right?
Many of today’s larger new San Antonio homes boast wine cellars, wine closets and wine tasting rooms off their dining rooms. Others have separate, freestanding wine cellar buildings on the property with dining tables inside for wine tastings and dinner parties. Other new homes feature butler’s pantries with sinks and built-in wine refrigeration cabinets. Of course, some of us simply have small wine racks in our kitchens.
No matter where we keep it, wine has never been more popular than it is today. Since the movie Sideways got everyone interested in pinot noirs and wine county tours a few years back, the old is new again and wine is “in”—though, of course, it was never really “out.” For: nothing can relax the shoulders and aid digestion like a nice glass of wine can, and friends always like to gather together to visit and taste the fruits of the wine. Having a few special bottles on hand is always a good idea.
