Some homes are so meticulously kept that it’s hard to believe anyone could live in them — or be comfortable living there. Other homes have that throw-off-your-shoes-plop-down-on-the-couch-lived -in look — often at the expense of any design and decor that you would want to show off to strangers, much less want photographed for a magazine.
Then there’s a very special home in The Dominion that epitomizes the perfect blending of comfort and style.
The 6,000-square-foot custom-designed home won awards for its architect/builder Steve Heflin, but the real prize winners are the family and friends of the owners, John and Angela.
While the couple has four children ranging in ages from 18 to 23, it seems like a lot more when their buddies gather to watch television, take a dip in the pool or just hang out.
“Kids are here in droves,” Angela says. “It’s not uncommon to have 15 extra kids here.”
And everyone knows how kids that age love to eat — which is just fine with Angela since she loves to cook. And, with the assistance from a licensed interior designer, she’s designed the perfect kitchen to accommodate both her and the guests.
Barbara Burger with Studio Domaine worked with Angela and John on their previous home, also in The Dominion, so she knew what the couple wanted.
“The kitchen is the main focal area,” Barbara says. “They had tile before but went with granite this time because it’s more serviceable.” A large island not only accommodates food preparation, but becomes a popular gathering place. Appliances in the gourmet kitchen include a stove top by Fivestar; an oversized oven, two warmer drawers and two microwaves, all by Dacor; and two dishwashers by Asko.
