Nothing enhances life like travel, and nothing enhances a home’s décor like treasures found during one’s travels. Shavano Creek area homeowners Dianna and Drew Roy understand this, and together with interior designer Ronda Baker of Ronda’s, they were able to find the perfect quarters for their treasures in a spacious San Antonio residence after years of living in cities across the globe.
The Roys’ Mediterranean-style home, an Image home built by Roberto Kenigstein, is decorated with a distinctly French flair — but what would you expect from a family whose last address was the Trocadéro in the 16th Arrondissement in Paris, across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower?
While in France, the couple loved to spend weekends in search of antiques at the famous Le Marché aux Puces (charming words for “flea market”) of Saint Ouens. During the 18 months that they lived in Paris, they not only found treasured antiques, they found treasured friends among shopkeepers and dealers, just as they had when they lived in Surrey, England, for a year before moving to France. The result of these friendships and contacts in the world of European antiques can now be seen throughout the five-bedroom, five-and-a-half-bath home designed by architect Roy Braswell (Braswell Architecture of San Antonio).
The Roys, who have been married 38 years and have two grown sons, came upon the Shavano Creek house when it was about five months into the building process, and then they worked with the architect and builder to ensure that everything was exactly to their liking. They added a Keith Zars pool in the back yard and hired David Shows to implement his lush landscape designs. It took a while to find the right interior designer with whom they could best work; however, when Dianna met Ronda Baker, she knew she’d found the perfect fit for what she had in mind. Ronda knew how to integrate new furnishings and fabrics into the fabulous cache of antiques that the Roys had shipped back from Europe.
