Decorative tile details for
kitchen backsplashes & more

Kitchen projects have been known to drive people crazy. Decisions, decisions! Cabinets, appliances, countertops — one thing and then another. With such important and costly selections to make, a little thing like backsplashes can get lost in the shuffle. “Oh, well! Any old thing will do —
just pick out something simple and go for it,” you’re thinking. Wrong!

Kitchen backsplashes are the perfect place to introduce decorative tiling into your decor. A ho-hum backsplash that looks like an afterthought will date your kitchen and undermine the success of your project. Today’s interiors are more artistic, so don’t pass up the opportunity to use this important element. Peruse the decorating magazines and check with local retailers and their designers to see what’s out there. You will be amazed at the possibilities.

When you’re ready to do some serious shopping, go prepared. Here’s a bit of advice from Sherry Minnich at Interceramic Tile and Stone Gallery:

• Bring along samples of the elements you’ve already selected, i.e., paint, granite countertop material and flooring, so you can design something that will not conflict with the materials already chosen.

• Bring pictures of what you like.

• Know your budget.

• Buy what you love.
